1.Bethel is hosting an open house on January 23rd and there will be Renaissance auditions following the morning activities.

2. Visit during our play, "The Curious Savage" on January 28-31. Audition times will be available Friday, January 29th or Saturday, January 30th in the afternoon. You will then be invited to stay and see our play.

CAMP BEGINS IN ONE WEEK

Renaissance Theatre camp, a 2 week intensive theatre training event, will begin on August 1st on campus at the newly named Bethel University. All of the theatre students will arrive and move into their dorms and apartments on Saturday morning and camp activities will begin that afternoon. Camp involves acting exercises, technical theatre, improvisation, and performance opportunities for the 46 students in the Renaissance Theatre program.

This year's camp will include some new experiences for our students including a 24 hour theatre event, intensive make up workshops, and technicial theatre workshops. The 2 week camp will culminate with our 2nd annual 10 minute play festival. Eleven student directors have been chosen to cast and direct a short 10 minute play. These plays will be presented on the evenings of August 15th and 16th at the Bethel Performing Arts Center in McKenzie. This year, awards will be given for best actor, best actress, best supporting actor/actress, and best overall play. Admission is free to the public.

Renaissance Theatre Announces Fall 2009 Shows

The Renaissance Theatre program at Bethel College has confirmed the shows for the Fall of 2009. The first production will be the endearing and comic play “The Curious Savage” by John Patrick. This play tells the story of the wealthy widow Mrs. Ethel Savage, who has been placed in a sanatorium by her children, determined to get a piece of the wealth that she possesses. While there, Mrs. Savage meets a cast of delightfully odd characters who show her the true value of wealth and happiness. This family comedy reminds us of the virtues of kindness, humility, and generosity that seem lost in a world that is driven by greed and dishonesty. “The Curious Savage” will be performed at the Bethel Performing Arts Center in McKenzie on September 24-27. Thursday through Saturday shows will take place at 7:00 pm, while the Sunday performance will be at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under and will be available soon. “The Curious Savage” is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.

Renaissance Theatre is also delighted to present the musical experience “Some Enchanted Evening: The Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein.” Join us as we celebrate the music of Broadway’s greatest writing team and hear your favorite songs from classic Broadway shows including THE SOUND OF MUSIC, SOUTH PACIFIC, OKLAHOMA!, THE KING AND I, CAROUSEL, and many others. This high energy musical revue will feature fantastic singers and dancers performing some of the most famous songs ever to be sung on stage and screen. You will not want to miss this special event! “Some Enchanted Evening” will be performed on November 5-8 at the Bethel Performing Arts Center. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances will take place at 7:00 pm, with matinees scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under. Summer Break is here!

Everyone is packing suitcases and boxes and preparing to move back home for the summer. It's been a great year and our Renaissance Theatre students are finishing their exams and wrapping up another year. Of course, the biggest question being asked right now is, "what shows are we doing next year?" I wish I had some concrete answers to that question, but due to calendaring issues and schedule conflicts, we are still working through what would be the best option for next year.

I will post that information as soon as it is available!

In Renaissance Theatre, we are all about starting new things! This upcoming school year, 2008-2009, we are starting a project called "Drama after Dark."

"Drama After Dark" is a series of student led productions that will be performed in our local community. The goal of this series is to allow students to be creative by developing their own theatrical events and producing them in our community. It could be a student directed one act play, a student written play, an night of improvisation, or any other type of dramatic production.

All productions must be approved by the Director and will be scheduled around other Renaissance events.

Today, no rehearsal. enjoy another day off.

Wednesday. I would like for the church show group to meet and try to go over some of the skits that we have worked on. Just start running through the script to get more familiar with it and the blocking.

Thursday. the hands team group from the church show needs to get together and start working on their pieces. I know I haven't told you what we are going to do yet, but when you show up thursday, someone will be able to tell you what is going on.

Friday. not sure yet. I'll post again later in the week.

The are quite a few steps to becoming enrolled at Bethel College and we want to help you get through those as quickly as possible. Hopefully, this list will help you navigate through those steps and help you see the process!

FILL OUT THE FAFSA! This is EXTREMELY important as it determines your eligibility for many federal and state grants and other funds. Fill it out immediately if you haven't yet. Go online to www.fafsa.ed.gov and get that done ASAP. Also, make sure you include Bethel College in Tennessee on your FAFSA so the report comes directly to us.
APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO BETHEL COLLEGE! This is an obvious step, but one that needs to be done before an audition can be set up. CLICK HERE to go to the admissions page and see the requirements and apply online.
SEND IN YOUR TRANSCRIPTS AND ACT SCORES! Make sure to contact your guidance counselor and have them send your official high school transcripts to the Office of Admissions at Bethel. Also, an official ACT score must be reported for you to be accepted. Make sure you send your scores to Bethel as well. ****IMPORTANT***** If you have already sent your ACT scores to us and re-take the test to get a better score, YOU MUST CONTACT THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE AND HAVE THEM RE-EVALUATE YOUR FILE! Make sure to contact us if you increase your score! Academic scholarship money is affected by that score and it will not change automatically. You have to re-report your new scores.
AUDITION FOR RENAISSANCE! See the posts below for audition requirements. All potential Renaissance students MUST audition to be eligible for the Renaissance scholarship.
IMMUNIZATION RECORDS, FEES, ETC! There are some other documents and fees that must be taken care of in order to gain admission to Bethel. Contact the admissions office for a complete list.
REGISTER! Once all that is complete and you have accepted your financial aid package that will be mailed to you, the final step is to register! Registration dates for the fall are listed on Bethel's Website.
ATTEND RENAISSANCE PERFORMING ARTS CAMP! Performing arts camp begins 2 weeks before the start of the fall semester. During this time, you will be in rehearsals and workshops and be preparing for a years worth of shows! It's a great experience and will provide us with a great start for a year full of theatre!

SUMMER AUDITIONS FOR RENAISSANCE THEATRE

If you are a high school junior or senior and you are interested in auditioning for Renaissance Theatre this summer, you're in luck!!! Instead of choosing one date and trying to get everyone to come at one time, we want to make it easy on you. If you will call the Renaissance Office at 731-352-6414, you can set up an audition date any time over the summer.

For those of you that are finishing your senior year, the earlier you audition the better for you. That way we can complete your financial aid package and get materials out to you sooner. You can also check out the Bethel College website at www.bethel-college.edu and get more information there.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

A 1-2 minute monologue of your choice. Pick a monologue that best shows your acting ability.
(For those interested in musical theatre) Be prepared to sing a song of some kind. If you can prepare one, that would be best. If not, you will be asked to sing a little bit of a song that you know so that we can get an idea of your voice part and vocal experience.
TECHNICAL THEATRE: If you are interested in technical theatre, please provide a portfolio or resume which extensively describes your experience in technical theatre.

Come audition for the Renaissance Theatre Program. All students must audition to be a part of Renaissance. Theatre applicants must prepare either one 2 minute monologue or two 1 minute monologues of different styles. Also, if you are interested in musical theatre, please prepare a song to perform. So you want to know more about Renaissance Theatre? Well you've come to the right place.

WHAT DO WE DO:
Our goal is to produce Broadway quality shows for our community and provide a great learning environment for students who are passionate about the arts and theatre. We perform multiple major shows a year, from Broadway Musicals, to shows for elementary school students, to improv nights, to religious shows, and everything in between. Each student who is a part of this program will be able to perform MULTIPLE times each year.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT:
Lots of ways:
1. We offer SCHOLARSHIPS!!! Lots of them. Each students who is a part of Renaissance Theatre will receive a $6000 yearly scholarship to be a part of our program. In fact, we scholarship students at the exact same level as athletic programs. The running back for the football team and the performing arts student gets the same scholarship. What's better than that!!!
2. Bethel College doesn't have a theatre major, so we mostly have students who are interested in getting their degree in one of our fine academic degree programs offered here at Bethel. Our students will leave college with a marketable degree and a great education, a long with an extensive list of theatre experiences which will make them attractive to potential employers.
3. We care about the individual student! Our goal is for every student to be succesful in whatever career path they choose. We will help you navigate through the academic challenges, as well as helping you navigate through life in a new place with new people. Each student is important to us as an individual.
